Leap Into Spring & Holi Festival of Colour

Saturday 06 March 2010, 13:00 - 16:00, By the Lakeside

Celebrating Spring and the Indian festival of Holi. There will be lots of paint, mostly on people, so to take part properly don't wear your Sunday best, put on an old white shirt or bring some ripped up white sheets to cover your clothes!

We shall have spring activities – planting vegetable and flower seeds; cutting and baking biscuits; making a giant chalk-walk; action painting ...

And of course playing with colour (marking each other with powder paint in vibrant colours, changing our white clothes into mini art galleries – while dancing to music). Of course you don’t have to play with colour, you can just watch everyone else .... That's what we said last year but 20 minutes into the afternoon nearly everyone was asking for bits of sheeting to cover their clothes and jumping into the dance space!

And a group of dhol drummers are coming to play to everyone at the end of the afternoon.

Indian and English food available ..... SEE YOU THERE!

In association with the Manchester Indian Association.

Regular Events

"Once a Month" Friends of Platt Fields Volunteer Day

3rd Sunday of every month

Everyone is welcome to come along and join us on our regular volunteer day doing a variety of jobs to make the park look beautiful! Gardening, art, building things, carving, lake cleaning, painting, weeding...different every time! Turn up any time between 1 and 4, wear old and warm clothes, all tools and refreshment provided. It's a fun social occasion as well as good exercise.

Guerilla Gardening Group

Every Thursday Evening during the summer, 5-8pm

The Guerilla Gardeners meet every week during the summer (less often during the winter - contact Anne on 248 9331 for details) to tend a vegpatch, a greenhouse, a herb garden, loads of raised planter beds, a butterfly friendly area and, most recently, an orchard and soft-fruit area. Find out more on the groups page.

parkrun - South Manchester

Every Saturday Morning, 9am

Every Saturday morning at 9am, a group supported by the University of Manchester and the friends of the community organise a 5km run. 5km is a great distance to get some proper exercise, and running with company is much more fun so come along and start your weekend the healthy way!

Everyone is welcome, and it isn't a race so it doesn't matter when you finish. However, it is important that runners pre-register. Please do so on the parkrun website which also has more information.
