Blue Badge Guided Walk Through History
Your last opportunity to walk round Platt Fields in the company of Kate Dibble, Blue Badge Guide, in a fascinating re-creation of great moments in the history of Rusholme, Fallowfield and the park itself. As you go, she will point out key buildings, forgotten myths and tales inside and outside the park, bringing a hundred years back to life.
The walk costs £2. Advance booking recommended (the last one sold out) Contact Jean for tickets: 07944 408697
Vintage Clothes Day
Our own personal take on the Antiques Roadshow format.
Do you have clothing, hats, shoes or other accessories that your Granny left in the attic or that have been handed down to you by your family? Would you like to know more about them? Bring them to Platt Hall, where Dr Miles Lambert (Director) will date them for you and tell you something of their history, where they might have been made etc. Please note, he is not at liberty to value items .
Speakers Corner
Another centenary event. Come along and listen to varied and interesting speakers tell you all about it from their soapboxes between the trees.
If you've got something you want to get off your chest and you fancy a rant please get in touch!
October
Centenary Dashehra Diwali Mela
A contemporary celebration of the Hindu festivals of Dashehra and Diwali, with amazing fireworks, spectacular lanterns, stalls and performances.
All culminating with the grand finale, where the 30ft effigy of the demon king Ravan goes up in flames. Full programme on the Mela website.

Launch of the Boathouse Mural
Come and see our new boathouse mural! With grub and gossip and children's play.
Regular Events
"Once a Month" Friends of Platt Fields Volunteer Day
Everyone is welcome to come along and join us on our regular volunteer day doing a variety of jobs to make the park look beautiful! Gardening, art, building things, carving, lake cleaning, painting, weeding...different every time! Turn up any time between 1 and 4, wear old and warm clothes, all tools and refreshment provided. It's a fun social occasion as well as good exercise.
Guerilla Gardening Group
The Guerilla Gardeners meet every week during the summer (less often during the winter - contact Anne on 248 9331 for details) to tend a vegpatch, a greenhouse, a herb garden, loads of raised planter beds, a butterfly friendly area and, most recently, an orchard and soft-fruit area. Find out more on the groups page. In 2010 the summer meetings started again on the 31st March. Meet at the lakeside centre.
parkrun - South Manchester
Every Saturday morning at 9am, a group supported by the University of Manchester and the friends of the community organise a 5km run. 5km is a great distance to get some proper exercise, and running with company is much more fun so come along and start your weekend the healthy way!
Everyone is welcome, and it isn't a race so it doesn't matter when you finish. However, it is important that runners pre-register. Please do so on the parkrun website which also has more information.
